Polar Plunge

This afternoon the annual Polar Plunge was held.  Last year we participated but this year we enjoyed it from the balcony.  Cooler here this year and going into the ocean didn't sound like fun.  Crowd wasn't as large this year either!

Getting ready to take the plunge.

This year's Polar Bears.

This morning temps here were in the mid 40's but we took a late morning bike ride.  Temps were in the mid 50's when we finished.  It was sunny so it wasn't too bad.

Happy New Year's Eve.  I hear fire works going off on the beach.

BRRR

Brrr!  It is cold and breezy here today (only in the 40's).
It is also very quiet!  We took Kj and Oscar to Charleston yesterday where they stayed to fly out early this morning and we took Bryce to the airport here early this afternoon so it is back to Bruce & me!
Best part of today was  - our condo got cleaned while we took Bryce to airport today and we didn't have to do it!
Friday we all went and played some miniature golf.  Hadn't played that in a long time - Bruce won!  Forgot my camera!  Everyone, except me (even Oscar) got at least 1 hole in one!  Fun!
Yesterday we drove to Charleston, had lunch and then went on the Palmetto Carriage Ride guided tour.

Ice cream after lunch and before our Carriage Tour.

Doesn't blue ice cream look good?

Oscar feeds one of the babies.  The carriages were pulled by 2 mules.

 Bones was our tour guide.

Rhyme and Reason were our mules.
Nice day.

Sunset

Yesterday while everyone at home was waiting for the snowstorm to hit, we were getting high winds, rain, thunderstorms and had a tornado watch.  It was all over by mid afternoon and we ended with a nice day.  Today it was cooler, but sunny all day and we had a beautiful sunset this evening.

 Pictures taken from our balcony.

We just keep on having fun!

We continue to have fun every day.  Oscar and I manage to make it to the swimming pool almost every day.  The pool is perfect for children his size.  Most of it is 3 or 4 foot deep with a small section 5 feet.  Oscar can now swim across the pool without touching bottom, put his face in without plugging his nose, float on his stomach, jump in off the side and do "torpedoes" off the side wall.  In this pool he can swim comfortably without his arm floaties.  We've been having fun!

Floating

 Swimming

For Christmas, we got Oscar a kite.  We gave it to him a couple of days before Christmas so he would have more chance to use it.  It was a day with a nice wind so it was easy to fly.  He was so excited!

We still go to turtle races when we are here at that time of day.
Turtles from the left are:  Gogge (Oscar's), LeRoy (Grandma's), Herman (Grandpa's),
Zelda (Kj's) and Boca (Bryce's)

Christmas in Myrtle Beach

Merry Christmas everyone!
Yes, we put up a little tree - found a good deal at Michael's - lights already attached!
We set the tree up and Oscar put a star on top.

Oscar & Mommy make some star ornaments.  Oscar draws the stars on sparkly paper & Mommy cuts them out.  They looked pretty on the tree.

Decorated tree - even has a wooden train around bottom - Oscar's idea - he travels with this train.

On Christmas Eve we went to a beautiful service at the UMC in North Myrtle Church.  Following church we went to Calabash, NC and ate at the Boundary House Restaurant.  YUMMY!!

Oscar leaves cookies, milk & pictures for Santa on Christmas eve.

Yes, there are presents under the tree!

Merry Christmas!!

Brookgreen Gardens

Last evening we went to Brookgreen Gardens.  It is a sculpture garden that is lit up with candles and lights at Christmas time.  We spent over 2 hours there and could easily have spent more time.  It was beautiful and they had musical entertainment as well (only got to see about 15 min. of that).

We'll have to go back there next year!
We stopped at the airport on our way back and picked Bryce up.

Trains, trains, & more trains!

 Oh yea, battleships too!
Yesterday we went to Wilmington, NC to see a model train exhibition at the mall.  On the way there we stopped to see Battleship North Carolina.  It was a great stop - so well set up and fun to walk around.  We even got to walk around inside.  Glad I didn't have to live on one!

 Checking out the periscope.

Then we went to the mall.
Oscar and Mommy rode the mall train.

 Model exhibition was great.

Oscar loved watching the trains.

This morning we went to a display at the local mall.

Oscar has no trouble spending time with trains.
This evening we went to a garden with lights and they had an indoor train room set up also (I didn't take any pictures)

More & more fun!

Oscar, are those your pj bottoms on your head and your pj top on your bottom?

 Yeah!  Oscar can swim!

Likes to jump in where he can touch.

Must play in the sand at the beach!

It's not too cold to wade in and get water for sand play!

Kj & Oscar arrive

Kj & Oscar arrived around midnight on Monday night.  Since then we have been having lots of fun together.

Oscar helps Grandpa make corn bread muffins.

Oscar & Grandpa cheer for their turtles in the turtle races.
Grandpa's, Grandma's, & Oscar's turtles each won a race.

Oscar's turtle (Googe)  is winning this race.

Oscar & Grandpa play Bingo at Bingo time.

 We play Chutes & Ladders.

Today we went kayaking.  Kj used my kayak and rented a 2 person sit on top kayak that Oscar & Grandma used.  Paddled from park in Cherry Grove.

Stopped at a beach for a break.  It is where the beach meets the ocean.

This evening we went to Bass Pro shop.  They had ornament making for children.

All done.  Elf & Oscar admire their work!

Arrived

We arrived in Myrtle Beach yesterday afternoon.  Drove through light rain most of the way.
We are on the 19th floor of the North Tower at Wyndham Seawatch Plantation.

View of sky over ocean yesterday afternoon.

Looking down the beach from our balcony.

Sunrise this morning.
In Atlantic Beach we had the sunset.  Here we have the sunrise.

We got in a 21 mile bike ride this morning before the rain came.  It was warm enough to get an early start and still ride in short sleeves.
Wine & cheese reception at resort before supper this afternoon.  A glass of wine after a light breakfast,  a 20 mile bike ride and then yogurt for lunch...goes right to head!
