Kayaking

Kayaking here has been nice.  Weather has been in the 70's and there has been little wind.  We did some kayaking on Friday & Saturday.  Friday we went to Bluffton and Saturday we put in at Broad Creek.

We saw a dolphin when we started and when we ended in Bluffton.  Too hard to get a picture of it but we had fun watching it.

Oh, oh...which way do we go?  3 possibilities!

Getting through the marshgrass areas can be a little unnerving when the tide is going out!
We could see where we wanted to end up but not sure how to get there.

 High tide in Broad Creek

Wouldn't you like to go for a swim in this water?  NOT!

We had fun watching this pelican diving.  Entertaining!

Boat trip to Savannah

On Monday, Bruce & I went to the "social" at the resort.  We had snacks, drinks, and heard about things to do in the area.  Each person was given a raffle ticket for some "gift certificates".  I won a gift certificate for the racing Zip Line which I was not interested in using.  Near-by was a family with a young lady (probably in her 20's)  She looked more of the Zip Line type than me so I offered her my certificate which she took.  Her family had won a boat cruise to Savannah which they could not use because they were leaving the next day so we traded (about $100 value).  The boat cruise goes out on Thursdays this time of year so we went to Savannah by boat.

Trip was about 1 1/2 hours.

Nice day until about 2:00 when it started to rain.

Ship wreck from Civil War period.
Harbor going into Savannah is a very busy, working harbor.

Container ship leaving harbor - it was huge!

One of our favorite sites when we took a tour another time had been the Cathedral.  We walked back to see it again this year.

A beautiful Nativity Scene was set up.

On the way back, we met up with a couple more container ships - one coming in and one going out.

All in all - a nice day!

Always an adventure! Where were you Dianne?

We are in Hilton Head - rained on our way here Sunday but cleared up and we were able to get a nice bike ride in yesterday even though it was cool.  Love the bike paths here!
Today was warmer and we decided to go for a kayak paddle in the afternoon.
Went to Broad Creek.

 Egrets & ibisis

Oyster beds - tide was low and starting to come back in.

After about 45 minutes of paddling, I noticed my butt getting wet and the kayak getting harder to paddle.  I had Bruce check my back hatch and he found it filled with water.

 Pumping out my hatch.

No good place to pull over and it would just keep filling so I high-tailed it back to boat launch.
Stopped periodically to do a little bailing but the adrenaline was pumping and I got a good work-out!

I did take time to get a picture of this bird though.

Hatch was filled when I got back and back end of boat was actually under water when I was sitting in it and paddling - very relieved to reach land!
Have a hole in back-end which Bruce has patched.  Will put some duck tape on it after it dries a bit!

Bye to Myrtle Beach

The last few days have been quite cool - struggling to reach the 50's.  Wed & Thurs were rainy as well. Yesterday it was sunny so we got in a bike ride around Little River area.  I had a hard time warming up  (didn't have long pants on and my legs were cold).  Hot tub warmed me up when we got back though.  Today was very sunny too but I decided to take a walk on the beach instead of cycling or kayaking - It was my last chance!  Tomorrow we head to Hilton Head Island.
Those things in the water are not people - they are sea gulls.

This has been our home for the last three weeks.  We are farthest left on the floor right under the top floor.  (19th floor).  Nice room, great views.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!
Can you believe it is 2013 already?
We had a cool and cloudy day but there was no wind so we did a 2 1/2 hour paddle on the Intracoastal Waterway putting in at the bridge in Little River.

Pelicans have become our favorite birds to watch and there were several to see on this paddle.
This one was hanging out around the boat launch waiting to be fed.

Polar Plunge

This afternoon the annual Polar Plunge was held.  Last year we participated but this year we enjoyed it from the balcony.  Cooler here this year and going into the ocean didn't sound like fun.  Crowd wasn't as large this year either!

Getting ready to take the plunge.

This year's Polar Bears.

This morning temps here were in the mid 40's but we took a late morning bike ride.  Temps were in the mid 50's when we finished.  It was sunny so it wasn't too bad.

Happy New Year's Eve.  I hear fire works going off on the beach.

BRRR

Brrr!  It is cold and breezy here today (only in the 40's).
It is also very quiet!  We took Kj and Oscar to Charleston yesterday where they stayed to fly out early this morning and we took Bryce to the airport here early this afternoon so it is back to Bruce & me!
Best part of today was  - our condo got cleaned while we took Bryce to airport today and we didn't have to do it!
Friday we all went and played some miniature golf.  Hadn't played that in a long time - Bruce won!  Forgot my camera!  Everyone, except me (even Oscar) got at least 1 hole in one!  Fun!
Yesterday we drove to Charleston, had lunch and then went on the Palmetto Carriage Ride guided tour.

Ice cream after lunch and before our Carriage Tour.

Doesn't blue ice cream look good?

Oscar feeds one of the babies.  The carriages were pulled by 2 mules.

 Bones was our tour guide.

Rhyme and Reason were our mules.
Nice day.
